Cynthia Walburn

Cynthia Walburn was born in Southern California and grew up in South Florida. Her paintings

incorporate physical and spiritual qualities of air, light and water. For over 3 decades Cynthia's

practice of contemplative prayer and meditation has been a major influence in her paintings and

life work to inspire the built environment. Ms. Walburn's artwork is included in significant

private and corporate collections as well as hospitality and healthcare environments. Her work

can be seen in the collections of PNC Global Headquarters in Pittsburg, The Center for Action

and Contemplation in Albuquerque, Everbank Corporate Offices, MD Anderson Cancer Center,

to name just a few. In addition, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Café Nola in Jacksonville,

along with a 12 canvas two story commission at the Baptist Hospital heart wing in downtown

Jacksonville and a 37 foot by 8 foot commission for 2 Creeks Bar and Grill in St. Augustine,

Florida represent a small number of her notable large scale commissions.

Cynthia holds a Bachelors of Design and a Masters of Architectural Studies from the University

of Florida. While her home and studio are located in Saint Augustine Florida, working outdoors

in nature and limitless other locations give her an even more expansive and inspired painting

I consider my work to be transcendent impressionism. My paintings are a form of meditation and

evolve from a process of seeking of inner peace. This practice of painting provides me a respite

from outer world chaos and leads me into depths of prayer and solace. Most people describe my

work as tranquil and ethereal. My desire is to engage the viewer in a state of calm and infuse the

atmosphere with a peaceful presence. The horizon line is intentionally absent from my work to

enhance a perception of weightlessness. Large scale paintings are my specialization and impact

the physical environment with a hopeful, peaceful and refreshing presence.
